The owner of longtime Janesville shoe seller Rogan’s Shoes has sold the company to a larger chain.

Shoe Carnival announces this week it’s bought out Racine-based Rogan’s Shoes, which has operated stores for 53 years in the Midwest, including at a current location on Woodman Road in Janesville.

Retailer Shoe Carnival is based in Evansville Indiana, and employs more than 5,000 people nationwide compared to the 600 Rogan’s Shoes says it employs.

Shoe Carnival says in a release it plans to absorb Rogan’s Shoes over the course of 18 months, and the buyout would generate an additional $10 million in annual income.

Shoe Carnival operates nearby stores in Brookfield, Greendale, Madison, and in the northern Illinois cities of Rockford and Freeport.

A Rogan’s Shoes store official declined comment to Big Radio.
