It’s been a decade straight of Janesville being recognized as a Bird City.

Bird City Committee Organizer Neil Deupree says to qualify as a Bird City, they need to meet certain criteria such as creating, protecting, and rehabbing habitats, addressing threats to birds, engaging people in bird conservation and encouraging sustainable practices.

Deupree says having a good park system that accommodates birds helped earn the recognition again. He says raising awareness through events like a pelican party when they return in the spring and swifts night out when they begin roosting in the fall allowed also helps.

Deupree says people can like their page on Facebook to stay up to date on events happening throughout the year.
