The Janesville City Council voted Monday night to award JP Cullen a bid for the Woodman Sports and Convention Center.

City Manager Kevin Lahner says multiple studies put the operating cost of the facility between $40,000 and $90,000 per year for the first five years, and they are going to apply the best business practices to run the facility and he’s confident they’ll be able to accomplish those goals.

Council Member Heather Miller made a motion to table the awarding of any contracts to a further date, saying the inconsistencies between contracts, reports, and evaluations are many, and if they are going to do it, they need to do it right.

Miller’s motion failed on a 5-2 vote.

Demolition is expected to start this winter, with completion expected for spring of 2025.
