The Wisconsin Department of Justice is releasing more information about an officer involved shooting that led to a death in Rock County last month.

According to a release, shortly after 9am on March 16th, alleged carjacking suspect Ray Castro fled Illinois law enforcement and traveled north into the City of Beloit where Village of Roscoe and City of Beloit officers attempted a vehicle containment maneuver to stop the vehicle.

The release says Castro then rammed his vehicle into Roscoe Police Sergeant Robert A. Lewis’ squad car, and Lewis fired his weapon striking the subject.

The state DOJ says life saving measures were performed and Castro was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The release says Lewis remains on administrative leave, and an investigation is ongoing into the incident.
