Former state senator Tim Cullen thinks it’s highly unlikely that the republican-controlled legislature and democratic governor will be able to agree on new legislative maps by January 11th.
The Democrat says in the meantime, the court has hired experts to draft their own maps which would be ready on January 12th.
Cullen says any new maps would need to be in place by April 15th when candidates for the legislature for the fall election need to begin circulating nomination papers.
On December 22nd the liberal-controlled Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned Republican-drawn legislative maps and ordered that new district boundary lines be drawn as Democrats had urged in a redistricting case.
