It’s the time of year where the leaves begin to change color, but they’ll be on your lawn in short order.

Janesville Parks Director Cullen Slapak says the city is encouraging residents to take some eco-friendly approaches to their leaves this year, including mulching them on the lawn or for garden cover; or to use leaves to make a compost for the spring and summer.

Slapak says taking one of these eco-friendly approaches will also help in keeping leaves away from the curb and thus blocking any sort of storm drain and causing clogs in the storm water system.

The city will still collect loose leaves between November 6th and the 17th.
