At least one of the applications the City of Janesville received for its open police chief position is internal.

Acting Police Chief Chad Pearson says he’s one of the 13 people who’ve thrown their hat in the ring.

City Manager Kevin Lahner says the Police and Fire Commission has narrowed the list to six semifinalists who are being scheduled for interviews.

Pearson says he’s not upset that the City is doing a national search rather than automatically promoting from within, as the community deserves the very best person.
