A local elementary school is being recognized as National Blue Ribbon School.

In a release from the Janesville School District, Monroe Elementary School in Janesville is one of just eight schools across the entire state of Wisconsin to be named a Blue Ribbon School.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program award recognizes schools where students achieve at high levels or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap among student groups.

In the release, Superintendent Mark Holzman says the entire team at Monroe should be proud of the recognition and the award represents the work of the students, staff, and families at Monroe.

Representative from Monroe have been invited to attend an award ceremony in Washington, DC this November.
