Riders using the Janesville Transit System will have a new way to pay for their fares.

Transit Director Rebecca Smith says their electronic farebox system is officially online, and it allows riders to download the MyJTS app or use a MyJTS smart card to tap a farebox and pay for rides on city transportation.

Smith says switching to the electronic system also allows them to take advantage of fare capping, so once a rider pays $52 to cover a 30-day pass, they do not need to pay any additional fares for the remainder of the 30-day window.

Smith says the city will be holding a number of events at the transfer center for people to learn about the system, including Friday from 11:30am to 1pm and Saturday from 10:30am to 1pm.

People can get more information on the program by contacting the Janesville Transit System.
