Starting Friday, Rock County employers will be required to provide a reasonable break time in a private space that is not a bathroom for employees to pump human milk during the workday.

Rock County Public Health Nurse Kyleigh Menke says the PUMP for Nursing Mother Act, which was signed by President Biden in December, expands on the 2010 Break Time for Nursing Mothers law.

Menke says the employee must be paid during their pumping time if they are not completely relieved of work duties.

Menke says Rock County businesses interested in learning more about the PUMP Act, or establishing a breastfeeding policy, can contact the health department.
