Beloit could see a rise in smaller homes after an amendment to an ordinance changes the minimum size for dwellings.

Economic Development Director Drew Pennington says it will give people more options, like allowing someone to build a home on their property who is taking care of an elderly relative or let a developer build multiple smaller homes on a parcel of land.

Pennington says there are a lot of vacant lots in Beloit and before the amendment it was tough to build on them, so it will have an impact on the lots and you can now build a home at a different price point than your typical constructed home.

Applications for development through the process will be available at Beloit City Hall starting September 28th.
