The Janesville Fire Department is asking the City Council for permission to order a fire truck that wouldn’t need to be paid for until next year, and wouldn’t be delivered until 2024.

Deputy Chief John McManus says the fire department isn’t immune to supply chain issues.

With lead times on new fire engines sitting at over 600 days, the Janesville Fire Department isn’t exactly jumping the gun by putting in an order for their next apparatus early.

McManus says the life expectancy for a fire engine is about 15 years. The 2023 Capital Improvements Plan includes a funding proposal of $900,000 for fire department vehicle replacement projects.
