The sixth annual YWCA Rock County Dorothy Height Award for Diversity in the Workplace will be presented at the annual YWCA Rock County Racial Justice Conference on November 12, 2020. The deadline to submit nominations for the prestigious award has been extended to Thursday, October 15, 2020.

The Dorothy Height Award for Diversity in the Workplace recognizes a business within Rock County that demonstrates a sustained commitment to cultural diversity, inclusion and retention in the workplace. Leading by example, this business is transforming the community into a truly inclusive environment where employees are valued for their talent and are able to reach their full potential. Previous recipients include Community Action of Beloit, Blackhawk Bank and Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care, and Beloit’s Community Health Systems, Inc.

The award is named for Dorothy Height, a civil rights and women’s rights activist focused primarily on improving the circumstances of and opportunities for African-American women. The numerous honors bestowed upon her include the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1994) and the Congressional Gold Medal (2004). She died on April 20, 2010, in Washington, D.C.
