Renovations at Janesville City Hall are falling even further behind schedule after the contractor discovered leaks in the work they had finished last fall.

The project was supposed to be finished in October of 2019, but a high volume of rain forced Klobucar Construction to delay the project through the spring.

When workers removed the winter tarps over the renovations back in March, they discovered water leaking through the repaired underground parking structure.

City Manager Mark Freitag said they’ve spent the last few months figuring out how fix the issue and make the decks structurally sound.

He expects the construction crew to resume work within the next week or so and finish the project by the fall, around a year after its original expected completion date.

Freitag thinks the over $2.5 million project will still stay within its budgeted amount because the contractor is responsible for fixing the issues with the repairs that had already been completed.
