The Wisconsin Elections Commission will mail out absentee ballot request forms for the November election to roughly 2.7 million voters.

Rock County Clerk Lisa Tollefson believes it will make the election easier for all municipal clerks.

The commission voted Wednesday to send every registered voter in Wisconsin a copy of the form required to request an absentee ballot for the fall election.

Voters who have already requested an absentee ballot for the November election will not receive a second form. Many absentee voters in the April election requested the mail-in ballots to come in advance for the fall vote too.

Tollefson said the elections commission is handling the entire system of mailing out and processing the absentee ballots, which will save local clerks significant time and effort.

Some municipalities like Whitefish Bay had already planned on mailing the absentee request forms to every registered voter, and Tollefson said the election commission decision will “level the playing field.”

She doesn’t see voter fraud as a concern in this process because they only go to registered voters and most have to submit a photo ID the first time they request a mail-in ballot.

The absentee ballot request forms will include instructions for voters on how to properly receive and file their ballots.
