Local farmers might be eligible for some COVID-19 related economic relief under a bill introduced by a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin. The Democrat says when large processing plants shut down due to an outbreak among workers, some meat producers must cull their herds. She says the current situation has also forced some dairy farmers to dump their milk. All at a time consumers find some items missing from store shelves, and charities fighting to feed the growing number of needy. Baldwin says the legislation will allow flexible financial support for farmers at the state level. Baldwin says the legislation has bipartisan support.
