A Beloit man is headed to prison for his role in a 2017 Janesville shooting and a separate shots-fired incident from earlier this year.

Rock County Judge John Wood sentenced 35-year-old Anthony Gibson to six years of prison followed by 10 years of extended supervision after he pleaded guilty to second-degree recklessly endangering safety, endangering safety by reckless use of a firearm, possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and bail jumping.

Gibson was originally charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, but assistant district attorney Scott Dirks agreed to reduce the charge after the victim and a witness became uncooperative.

Police said the 32-year-old male victim suffered serious injuries after being struck in the torso by Gibson’s gunfire in June of 2017.

The sentence was a result of a joint recommendation and plea agreement by Dirks and defense attorney Melissa Frost, who said Gibson will need to make better choices about how to live his life.
