Blackhawk Technical College’s budget next year comes with a big question mark. President Tracy Pierner tells Your Talk Show on WCLO the school is in a good place financially but state funding and student enrollment could be down by as much as 25% next year. Pierner says typically when the economy dips, enrollment increases, but the impact of COVID-19 makes everything more uncertain. He says next year’s class schedules are being adjusted for social distancing with smaller class sizes, but more sections. This means the teaching staff will need to be increased. Pierner says more than $1 million in CARES Act money has been already been approved for the increased salaries.
