Authorities say they’ve arrested two Rock County residents after they stole a car in Janesville and dumped a toddler in a car seat on the side of the road.

Kristopher Klein, 27, Janesville, and Neanni Bowman, 23, Beloit, are in custody on vehicle theft, abduction and child abandonment after a deputy disabled a stolen vehicle the two were spotted in driving south on Afton Road Saturday evening.

Janesville police say they got a call from a resident who reported their vehicle stolen from the Stop N Go gas station at 714 Center Ave. The person reported their 2-year-old toddler was still inside the vehicle.

Police say within minutes, a witness found the child still strapped in a car seat, abandoned along the Rock River on the side of Riverside Street — but otherwise unharmed.

Rock County sheriff’s officers alongside the Wisconsin State Patrol and several local police agencies began canvassing for the stolen vehicle, before a deputy spotted it on Afton Road and disabled the vehicle.

Police say they arrested Klein and Bowman without any further trouble.

Both are in Rock County jail.

Klein and Bowman both have criminal misdemeanor records – Klein for theft; Bowman for trespassing.
