It appears Whitewater resident Brienne Brown is Wisconsin’s new 43rd Assembly District representative.
The Democrat Brown and her opponent, moderate Republican Scott Johnson of Jefferson, battled in what was a tight race. Brown wound up with just over 51 percent of the vote in Rock, Walworth and Jefferson counties.
That’s according to unofficial Rock County totals that came in late Tuesday ahead of full absentee counts.
Brown, a Whitewater Democrat, among other things has served on Whitewater’s city council and spearheaded efforts to bring fresh food groceries to Whitewater.
She was being supported by a statewide teachers union on a platform for fair pay for educators.
Johnson, a farmer and former school bus driver, was first elected to the 33rd assembly district in 2022.
