Milton’s municipal budget makers are still looking for cuts to meet another of its goals for the 2025 spending plan.

City Treasurer Kelsie Bannach says as of Tuesday night’s common council meeting, the draft budget meets two of the city’s four stated goals: It includes no reductions in services, and its levy of $3.7 million is under the state’s levy limit.

About $24,000 in added revenues or cuts are needed to meet the criteria for the expenditure restraint program, which offers municipalities payments for limiting growth in spending.

A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for the November 6th Common Council meeting, and the city hopes to approve the budget by November 19th.

In other action Tuesday, the city plan commission and then the common council granted Clasen Quality Chocolates a conditional-use permit for a 77,000-square-foot expansion to its facility on Putman Parkway.

Council members also voted to open the city clerk’s office for same-day voter registration on Election Day, which Clerk Jenny Salvo has been done during past presidential elections.

She says allowing the clerk’s office to register voters on the day of voting will make registering and voting in the council chambers more efficient.

The state of Wisconsin allows voters to register at their polling places on Election Day. Milton’s lone polling place is City Hall, so the city is allowed to register voters at the clerk’s office because it’s in the same building.
