The Janesville Police Department rolls out the pomp and circumstance for their annual awards ceremony Wednesday evening at Rotary Botanical Gardens.

The night’s honorees include Police Officer of the Year Detective Kyle Austin, Civilian Employee of the Year Records Clerk Lynn Godding, and the Award of Excellence to Deputy Chief Mark Ratzlaff.

Washington Elementary School Principal Matt Peerenboom will be honored with the law enforcement citizen award for his quick action during a scary situation.

Janesville Police say around 11:30 a.m. last October 4th in the area of North Oakhill and Barham Avenues, 26-Tyrone Gibson pulled a gun from his waistband and shot at a detective who was trying to take him into custody in connection with a separate shooting.

Peerenboom placed the nearby Washington Elementary in a hard lock down and kept in communication with police until he received the all-clear.
