The Beloit School District lags behind the state in standardized test scores.

Roughly three-quarters of students in the district did not meet grade-level standards in English language arts, math or science on statewide Forward Exams during the 2023-24 school year. About two-thirds of students fell short of grade-level standards in social studies.

The state Department of Public Instruction released the data Tuesday morning.

About half of public school students statewide were meeting grade-level standards in all subjects.

In the Turner School District, students surpassed the state averages in language arts, math and science by a few percentage points in each subject. Turner students matched the state meeting-expectations average in social studies.

Kids in grades three through eight were tested in English and math; fourth and eighth graders took science and social studies tests, while an additional social studies test was given to high school sophomores.
