A panel suggests a series of cuts to balance the School District of Beloit’s budget for the 2024-25 school year.
Among the cuts proposed Tuesday by an ad hoc committee formed this summer are eight school psychologists and counselors for a savings of $600,000, seven assistant principals across the district for a savings of more than $750,000, and nine staffers at the Kolak Education Center for a savings of $1.44 million.
The committee members also proposed a pay cut for board members for a combined total of just more than $10,000.
The proposals were presented to the school board’s Business, Operations and Finance Committee.
Combining those cuts with ones the board approved in a preliminary budget last month would allow the district to trim $9.9 million from its 2024-25 budget and bring it into balance. Much of the previous cuts included open staff positions that will not be filled.
