The School District of Janesville has updated its sex-based discrimination policies under Title IX.
The changes, approved at Tuesday’s school board meeting, broaden the scope of conduct included under the term “sex-based discrimination” beyond just sex-based harassment.
Such conduct may now include claims of unequal athletic opportunities, discrimination in admission or academic programs, pregnancy discrimination, and unequal treatment based on family status, among others.
Other key changes include that formal complaints no longer need to be submitted in writing and that those filing complaints may be people who previously were in the district but no longer are.
The new policies will be applied to complaints received after Aug. 1.
