At least one local hospital and some Rock County offices say they’re feeling the bite of a worldwide tech outage that hit overnight.
SSM Health says some phone systems at St. Mary’s Janesville hospital have been down (Friday). They say it’s linked to global Microsoft outages that struck Thursday night.
An SSM Health spokeswoman says outages have caused no major disruptions in patient care at the Janesville hospital. But they they say SSM Health is postponing what it calls a “limited number of procedures” because of the disruption.
The official says SSM hopes to have all its phone operations up and running at some point Friday.
Rock County officials say as of late Friday morning, the system that electronically processes marriage licenses at the county clerk and register of deeds offices is inoperable, but they can issue the licenses by hand.
The Rock County District Attorney’s office says it has undisclosed outages linked to the global Microsoft glitch.
The Rock County 911 call center is not directly impacted by the outages, but a supervisor there says other adjacent county 911 centers were cascading 911 calls to Rock County.
A 911 center supervisor says it is standard protocol to have 911 calls spill from one county to the next in cases of system outages. The supervisor says such spillovers happen infrequently.
Statewide, some law enforcement agencies have reported difficulty accessing programs that process official police reports and other paperwork.
One Janesville Police Department official says the department’s systems seem unaffected.
Globally, some major airlines and banking companies report being seriously hampered by the outages.
The outages are from upgrades between Microsoft and a cloud-based provider of business operating systems. There’s no indication of any cyberattack or security breaches linked to the outages.
