Fire officials have not released what caused the fire that burned up a 26-unit apartment building in Janesville’s Surrey Ridge complex Monday.
In a news briefing Wednesday, the Janesville Fire Department says officials have learned a cause, and the fire is considered accidental.
The department says investigations show no deliberate or malicious acts caused the fire.
But fire officials say they’re not ready to publicly release the cause, pending ongoing discussions with insurance companies.
No residents were hurt in the fire, but at least 50 people are displaced, because the building was destroyed in the blaze.
Janesville fire officials say a restoration company has fenced off the area around the burned apartment at 2600 East Racine Street.
Officials say that for their own safety, people should stay out of the fenced off area unless they get permission to go in.
