The Janesville City Council unanimously voted Monday night to expand TIF district 38 along Milton Avenue with the hopes for future developments.

Ehlers Consulting Associate Municipal Advisor Harry Allen says they’re looking primarily at commercial development within the amended area, including potentially a hotel, some activity space, and multi-family residential developments.

Economic Development Director Jimsi Kuborn says they created the amendment because the mall is a challenging property to try to redevelop.

The expanded district includes the mall and its parking lots, but not the site of the former Sears building that is being demolished for the Woodman’s Center.
