The Milton man police say shot a bullet through the ceiling of his apartment and then hid from a SWAT team in a storage closet for hours says he’s not guilty.

A Rock County court commissioner bound over 53-year-old John Diggles for trial in a brief hearing Tuesday.

Diggles waived the hearing and his attorney, Michael Murphy, entered a plea of not guilty for the man.

Police accuse Diggles of firing a gun once inside his Northside Drive apartment March 13th. They say he shot a bullet through the ceiling and into another resident’s unit above.

Authorities say they had to enter the apartments to find Diggles after police, a SWAT team, and crisis negotiators had tried for six hours to coax him out. SWAT officers found Diggles hiding in a storage room.

Police say they found cannabis in his apartment and recovered a gun.

Diggles faces two counts of recklessly endangering safety, felon possessing a gun, and possession with intent to deliver cannabis.

He’s free on bond.

Meanwhile, police are still investigating a second, separate Milton shooting a that injured a man last week. It was about two blocks from the shooting Diggles is accused of. Police have not tied the two incidents together.
