A soybean processing plant project in Evansville got the support of the Rock County Board after a Thursday night vote.
Rock County Economic Development Director James Otterstein says the state of Wisconsin is effectively a soybean-crushing desert and farms are forced to find alternative markets and find alternative markets elsewhere out of the area, and that cuts into their bottom line in a big way.
Otterstein says Evansville finds themselves in an unintended consequence when it comes to TIFs, and the resolution authorizes county officials to lobby for exemptions to state public financing laws to help fund the projects construction.
The facility, located at highways M and 14, would employ up to 90 people and operate 24 hours, seven days a week.
