Rock County’s sheriff hopes a new Tek84 body scanner system at the Rock County Jail will help stop drugs and weapons from being smuggled into the building.

Curtis Fell says they were going to wait to put it in with the new jail project, but with six fentanyl overdoses at the jail in 2022 they felt they needed to implement it sooner rather than later.

Fell says the system picks up abnormalities via a type of x-ray scan, and should any abnormalities be detected they’ll be sent to the hospital or sent aside to see what they are trying to sneak in.

The Rock County Board unanimously approved the purchase at their meeting Thursday night for a cost of $159,000.
