Janesville’s city manager may move onto another job, but it’ll be a while before he starts it.

Mark Freitag tells WCLO’s “Your Talk Show” that, though he’s the finalist for the city manager’s job in Westminster, Colorado, there’s a process the Denver suburb needs to follow before they can hire him.

Freitag explains that when a Colorado municipality selects a candidate for city manager, a two-week “cooling off” period is required prior to going to an open-meeting session to approve the hire.

What’s more, if Freitag gets the Westminster city council’s approval at a Monday night meeting, he is still bound by his employment agreement with the city of Janesville to give a 60-day notice prior to leaving his position.

Freitag says if he is approved for the Colorado job, he will submit his resignation as Janesville city manager on Tuesday, and wouldn’t be able to begin his new job until October 24th at the earliest.
