A Rockford police dog is shot and is expected to recover.

Police there say a man who officers pulled over in the 1300 block of East State Street fled the traffic stop and shot a police dog.

The man was arrested, and the dog was taken to an emergency vet with injuries to a shoulder and a paw. Surgery will be required and the dog is expected to make a full recovery.

No information was given on pending charges for the suspect. Police say more details will be provided after an investigation.
