The city of Milton seeks an alderperson.

With former Alderman Eric Stockman now the mayor, there’s a vacancy on the common council that will be filled through a process that City Clerk Jenny Salvo says has never been used.

The city will advertise the vacancy, including in its newspaper of record, and residents will have two weeks from publication in the paper to submit a letter of interest to Salvo’s office. She says the letter of interest form will be available on the city website.

After the letter deadline passes, a vetting process will unfold over two council meetings.

In the first, council members will interview the candidates in open session.

The next meeting includes a public hearing for residents to ask questions of the candidates and then the council will vote to recommend a candidate to the mayor. It’s then up to the mayor to accept or reject that recommendation.

Salvo says the process should result in a new council member being appointed by early June. That person would serve through the April 2026 election.
