Rock County authorities issue arrest warrants for two Milwaukee women charged with burglarizing a home in the town of Harmony last year.

Prosecutors say 23-year-old Lela Morales and 24-year-old America Mejia went to dinner at a Beloit restaurant in June 2023 with their victim, who met the women through an acquaintance.

Morales and Mejia ditched the victim at the restaurant to take an Uber back to his home on Brentwood Drive in the town of Harmony, where prosecutors say the women removed a gun safe that held five firearms and $14,000 in cash. Also stolen were another firearm that wasn’t in the safe, a cellphone, a bottle of tequila and another $303 in cash for a total estimated loss of $29,167.

The victim did not know the women’s names, but after an 18-month investigation that included sending footprint impressions to the state crime lab, police were able to gather enough evidence to identify them and refer charges to the district attorney.
