A 28-year-old Janesville man takes a plea deal in a child pornography case.

According to the criminal complaint, in July of 2023, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from Yahoo indicating that a user had emailed child pornography to themselves. Yahoo provided an IP address that was registered to Dakota Stewart of Janesville.

A Janesville Police Detective reviewed the flagged file and found that it contained a video of a nude pre-pubescent child engaged in sexual activity.

At the time of his arrest, Stewart was living with his fiancé and two young girls ages three and nine.

According to online court records, Tuesday Stewart plead guilty to possession of child pornography and possession of an intimate representation.

Rock County Judge Karl Hanson withheld his finding of guilt on the child pornography charge as part of a felony hold open agreement, but found him guilty of the second charge.

Stewart can petition to have the child porn charge dismissed if he he completes three years of probation. Stewart is allowed supervised contact with his child but is not allowed to possess any device with access to the Internet.
