The Hedberg Public Library board discusses City Hall’s desire to overhaul JATV on Tuesday night.

JATV station director Alan Luckett says city and station staff met recently and that plans to recap city council meetings and produce public service announcements to help people navigate city services came out of that discussion.

Library board member Cathy Erdman opposes the change. She fears that putting JATV under the auspices of the city manager’s office could make it easier to cut funding, which would lead to JATV and the library falling short of its vision to create an informed, connected and engaged community.

Instead, Erdman wants a committee formed to produce a sustainable business plan for the public access TV station.

Richard Neeno, a member of the city council and the library board, believes there is no nefarious intent behind city manager Kevin Lahner’s proposal.

One piece currently missing from the discussion: a memorandum of understanding that would more clearly outline JATV’s new operational structure.
