The Janesville Fire Department is looking to get its first boom-style aerial truck, replacing the old ladder trucks of days past.
On Monday night, the Fire Department will ask the City Council to authorize the purchase of a new articulated boom truck from a company called Seagrave out of Clintonville, Wisconsin at a cost of $2.69 to $3.17 million.
It will have a 95 foot platform and be able to fight fire from above, deliver firefighters to roofs and windows, and if it’s in the right place at the right time, rescue people from windows.
McManus says the tower truck the new apparatus is replacing still has a few good years left but the current lead time on new fire trucks is currently four to five years.
