Drivers will want to avoid Highway 51 near the Portland Avenue Bridge north of Downtown Beloit.

Police are apparently shutting down the area after a truck carrying liquid nitrogen tipped over shortly before the noon hour.

The state patrol says Highway 51 and White Avenue could be blocked a few hours after an accident.

Firefighters on scene tell big radio they’ve advised businesses within 350 feet of the accident to close their doors temporarily and send customers out of the immediate vicinity.

Witnesses on scene tell WCLO a truck apparently tipped near the bridge, although details weren’t immediately available.

Portland Avenue bridge is just north of the Beloit College powerhouse.
