Janesville firefighters put out a greenbelt fire on the city’s west side Friday.

Fourteen firefighters worked 2½ hours to put out the fire that consumed an area of 1.67 acres. None of the homes adjacent to the burned patch of grass were affected, fire officials say.

Police are investigating the fire. The fire department reminds residents that fires can start readily and spread quickly amid dry conditions like those we are currently experiencing.
