One person is dead after a traffic crash near Whitewater.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says lone motorists were driving in opposite directions on County Highway U at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when the vehicle traveling eastbound crossed the centerline and hit the other vehicle.

County U runs along the northern limit of the city of Whitewater in the town of Cold Spring.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
