A former traveling nurse now employed at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-Janesville got an idea for a donation drive after receiving a call from FEMA.
The federal agency asked registered nurse Devin Rivera whether the RV that Rivera lived and worked out of as a traveling nurse was available. FEMA wants it to house emergency responders.
Instead of merely taking the RV, Rivera asked the hospital to solicit donations to load into the vehicle and add to the relief and recovery efforts.
So SSM Health is taking donations through Wednesday with Rivera set to leave Saturday for either North Carolina or Florida — wherever FEMA deems there is greater need.
Items to donate include nonperishable foods, hygiene items including feminine products, pet supplies and disposable paper products.
