A Racine firefighter dies in a car vs. motorcycle crash at the entrance of Alpine Valley Music Theater just south of East Troy.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office says the crash occurred just after noon Thursday at County D and Townline Road in the town of Lafayette.

First responders located the driver of the motorcycle, Maxwell Bayer, 31, of Franksville, in a ditch at the crash scene and took life-saving measures. Bayer was a firefighter for the city of Racine and for the Raymond Fire Department.

He was transported to the East Troy Municipal Airport to wait for a Flight for Life helicopter, but he died at the airport before the chopper arrived.

The other driver in the crash, a 17-year-old from Eagle, was not hurt and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
