Milton might be out of step with the rest of Rock County in enacting an ordinance where sex offenders can live, and the city administrator says that’s a good thing.
Paul Hensch says he thinks Milton is a leader as some Rock County communities don’t regulate where sex offenders can live at all.
Under a recently enacted city ordinance, convicted sex offenders are barred from living within 1,200 feet of a park, school, day care or other place where children congregate.
Hensch says he doesn’t think anyone would appreciate a child sex offender living next to a school. He added residents have generally been supportive of the change.
The ordinance doesn’t apply to the approximately half dozen sex offenders who already live in Milton.
