Janesville police say they’ve found two apparently homeless people dead since Sunday at the same gazebo along the woods near the Rock River.

Janesville police say they found a man unresponsive late Tuesday morning at a park gazebo in the 1000 block of North Washington Street, just north of the Memorial bridge.

That’s after police say they found another unresponsive man at the same gazebo on Sunday morning.

Police say they tried to revive both men, but both died at the scene. Police have not indicated what might have led to their deaths. Police say investigations show no immediate signs of foul play, and they say there’s no threat to the community.

A homeless man who identified himself as Harry tells Big Radio he’s been living at GIFTS Men’s Homeless Shelter. The shelter is across the street from the park pavilion.

Harry says he saw police using a cloth to cover what looked to be a motionless body laying by the pavilion on Sunday.

Harry says he’d seen two men recently who appeared to be living under the park pavilion. Harry says nobody at GIFTS knew either of the men he’d seen, but he characterized them as being “older people” who were homeless.

He says the two men had belongings set out at the pavilion for a number of days.

The area is just north of the Mercyhealth Mall, along a section of the Ice Age Scenic Trail that winds through the woods along the Rock River. It’s a stretch of woods known for having homeless encampments.

Police say anyone with information can call Janesville police or the Rock County 911 Communication Center at 757-2244.
