Fundraising efforts for the proposed Rock County Children’s Museum are apparently a bit of a moving target.

Board President John Westphal says a recent $250,000 pledge from Compeer Financial brings the current total to $9.5 million.

Westphal says although the original fundraising goal was $10 million, it looks like re-purposing the old First National Bank Building in downtown Janesville is going to cost more than that. The group plans to keep the capital campaign open after that initial goal is met.

Westphal says, impressed with the farm to table exhibit, Rock County agri-business groups have donated a total of $1 million toward the project.

The Rock county Ag Business Council has pledged $25,000, and the Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board has pledged $200,000.

Westphal says the group hopes to complete design work for the project by January or February and break ground in late February or March of 2025.
