Authorities say a jail inmate is severely injured after they plunged from a balcony at the Rock County jail last week.

Sheriff’s authorities say an investigation shows an unnamed, 28-year-old inmate “intentionally fell” from the upper tier in the jail Tuesday afternoon. They say the inmate was trying to kill themselves.

Authorities say the inmate has “major injuries” from the fall.

Rock County Sheriff’s reports show the person is on an emergency detention. There was no word on their condition. Their name and gender were blacked out in reports.

The inmate’s fall happened during a week at the jail that officials say saw two separate jail fights among inmates, both of which resulted in jail battery charges. One of the fights involved multiple inmates.
