The Milton City Council considers a new ordinance Tuesday which would ban convicted sex offenders from living within 1,200 feet of a school, daycare, park, or other facility that caters to children.
Police Chief Brandon Sachse says the half dozen sex offenders who already live in Milton would be grandfathered in.
Sachse says when he started his job last fall he was surprised to learn that Milton wasn’t regulating where sex offenders are allowed to live.
Sachse says as of 2021 more than 150 Wisconsin municipalities have enacted a sex offender residency restriction ordinance.
