The former United Way building on Janesville’s North Main Street riverfront now belongs to developers Quint and Rishi Studer.
The couple paid $500,000 for the former U-Way building is at 205 N. Main St., which is just north of the Studers’ trio of Bodacious Shops, also known as Block 42.
Quint Studer says his family plans a full renovation of the former U-Way building, inside and out, in the coming months.
There’s no specific word yet on the intended reuse, but Studer hints at a future that involves food.
Studer says ownership of the U-Way Building brings shoppers and diners who visit the block of North Main an immediate boon — more parking. That’s something Studer says Bodacious Shops’ customers have wanted.
Studer says he’s already pulled out no-parking barricades United Way had used to block off its parking lot, a move that’s drawn what he calls instant positive feedback from customers and downtown visitors.
Studer says the family aims to formally announce its plans for the former U-Way sometime this fall, but he says a reuse project there will bring the downtown more fun, food and music.
Studer says his family’s purchase of the building brings the United Way’s Blackhawk Region an immediate financial windfall.
