City of Janesville residents will see their water utility rates climb a couple of bucks starting this fall.

The city announces a 4.1% water rate increase.

Water superintendent Dave Botts says the change will cost the average resident an extra $2 on their quarterly water bill.

That four-percent increase only applies to the main water rate, not the rest of your water bill.

The state’s Public Service Commission must sign off on the rate change. Botts says he thinks the agency will approve the increase by September.

It’s the city’s first rate hike for water service since 2019.

Botts says it’s being driven by inflation, including a jump in the electrical utility costs the city’s water department has been stung with.
